Visitors to Malaysia at the end of October can take in the sights and sounds of the Sarawak Bird Race.

To be held between the 28th and 30th of October this year, the fourth edition of the annual event is organised by the Malaysian Nature Society (MNS) and is designed to raise awareness of the importance of preserving rare birds.

It begins with two days of seminars and bird watching sessions in the Sarawak area, which will include night walks, during which nocturnal species can be seen.

The event culminates on the 30th with the Bird Race itself, which challenges participants to organise themselves into two-person teams and log as many species as they can within the allotted time.

Registration for the event costs 100 ringgits (£20.80) for a team of two, while the overall victors could win cash prizes of up to 1,000 ringgits, as well as one-year memberships to the MNS.

The event will be followed by a post birding tour, allowing keen bird enthusiasts to continue looking for rare species for two more days and nights.

Nature lovers can view a large selection of Malaysia hotels at AsiaRooms.com, such as the Borneo Highlands Resort, where the bird race takes place.
