The Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra will perform in a Centenary Concert event to celebrate National Day at the end of this month.

Consisting of two performances on September 29th and October 1st, the concert will be held at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre Concert Hall and will begin at 20:00 local time.

The programme will commence with a rendition of Ode to the Red Flag Guizhou by composer Lu Qiming, as a tribute to the 62nd National Day of the People's Republic of China.

It will be followed by a special presentation of Never Far Away by Bright Sheng, a folk-inspired piece that evokes memories of home, with acclaimed harpist Dan Yu set to offer accompaniment.

Completing the evening's entertainment will be the triumphant Symphony No 5 by Beethoven, bringing the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the 1911 revolution to a fitting close.

Tickets range in price from HK$100 (£7.90) to HK$280, depending on the choice of seat.

This will also be one of the last opportunities to see the orchestra under the artistic direction of Edo de Waart, as he is leaving after the 2011/12 season.

Classical music connoisseurs can choose from a wide selection of Hong Kong hotels at AsiaRooms.com, including the Kings De Nathan.

More information about the performance and the orchestra can be seen at www.hkpo.com.
