AsiaRooms.com - Take in Um Phra Dam Nam Ceremony in Thailand

Industry: Travel

Travellers to Thailand will be able to take in the unique and spiritually meaningful Um Phra Dam Nam Ceremony at the end of September.

The annual religious event will be taking place in Phetchabun province between September 25th and 29th 2011, in a ritual designed to help promote prosperity in Phetchabun, known as the city of plants and crops.

Visitors will be able to watch as officials carry the Phra Buddhamahadammaraja, the principle Buddha image at Wat Traiphum temple, to be ceremonially bathed and invocated by the provincial governor.

Phra Buddhamahadammaraja is believed to be the spiritual guardian of the region and has been associated with powers such as the ability to bring agricultural prosperity and heal illnesses.

By conducting this yearly rite, it is thought that an abundance of crops, plentiful harvests and wealth will be brought upon Phetchabun.

The Um Phra Dam Nam Ceremony is one of many cultural experiences visitors can enjoy while in Phetchabun province, which is known for its mountains, lakes and rivers, as well as its famous Khao Kho National Park.

Cultural tourists can choose from a generous selection of Thailand hotels at AsiaRooms.com, including the Pattara Resort & Spa.
