In 1996, l'Humanité became France's first entirely online news provider. It is an independent publication, and as such has to be a bit creative when it comes to funding itself.

This is where the Fête de l'Humanité comes in, a large scale music show that contributes annually to the coffers. This year's show runs from September 16th-18th.

Canadian rockers Sum 41 were due to headline the main stage, but after they cancelled due to illness they are to be replaced by Avril Lavigne.

Other acts include Fat Freddy's Drop, The Ting Tings and former tennis champion turned pop superstar Yannick Noah.

As well as the music, there will be culinary, sporty and child-friendly activities to keep everyone entertained.
