Hotels-Paris.co.uk - Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe turns the eyes of the equestrian world towards Paris

Industry: Travel

Situated at the heart of the splendid Bois de Boulogne in the west of Paris, Longchamp racecourse is the home of French horse racing. Each year, it hosts the prestigious Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe, and punters are already going into a frenzy in the build up to the big race October 2nd.

The last few years have seen a great deal of UK and Irish interest in the race, with all the winning horses in the last five years based in one of those countries.

Last year's title went to British Epsom Derby-winner Workforce, ridden by Ryan Moore, while controversial jockey Kieren Fallon was victorious on Hurricane Run in 2005 and again on Dylan Thomas in 2007, both from Ireland.

However, this year the bookmakers are unaminously tipping French filly Sarafina to take the crown, after she was unfortunate to only take third last year after a barnstorming final furlong.

She will be looking over her shoulder at Nathaniel, reigning champion Workforce and So You Think, while good odds are also available for Galikova and Reliable Man.

The whole race card spans two days from October 1st-2nd and contains plenty of prestigious Group 1 races, so there will be plenty of opportunities for a flutter on some of the world's finest horses.

Hotels-Paris.co.uk has a variety of boutique hotels available in central Paris for anyone looking to make a weekend of it. Pershing Hall
is one of the best choices you will find.
