Author Chris Smith is set to visit Dorset County Museum on Thursday September 29th, when he will tell the remarkable story of his epic bike ride to Beijing.

Rather than setting off for work in Worcestershire as normal in May 2000, Smith carried on pedalling instead of completing his normal 12-mile journey to the office.

He set his sights on Beijing and eventually arrived in the Chinese city 13 months later, having covered a gruelling 16,500 miles on two wheels.

Smith, who penned a book about the journey entitled Why Don't You Fly?, will talk visitors through his experience when he appears at the Dorchester museum.

Using photographs from the trip to illustrate his tale, the author will explain the various challenges, crises and bizarre situations he encountered on his way through Asia.

He is also set to sign copies of his book after the presentation, which will begin at 19:30 BST.

The event is free to attend, although donations of £3 are encouraged.
