Food lovers will be heading to Cornwall next month for the Falmouth Oyster Festival.

Tim Anderson, the winner of this year's edition of the BBC's MasterChef competition, has been lined up to open the event, which is set to run from Wednesday October 12th to Sunday October 16th.

The festival marks the start of the oyster dredging season in Falmouth, a town that boasts the third deepest natural port in the world. Between October and February, boats will use traditional methods as they trawl the local oyster beds in search of the celebrated delicacy.

During the festival, Events Square in the heart of Falmouth will be packed with stalls offering oysters, seafood, wine and other produce, while the programme also contains cooking demonstrations, live music and sea shanties.

Among the bands and acts set to play at this year's Falmouth Oyster Festival are The Tinners, Black Rock Jazz and choral group Pearl of Africa.

Another highlight is a race between local working boats and their crews, which will take place at the Inner Harbour from 11:00 BST on Sunday October 16th. Prizes will be awarded to the winners at 15:00.

Eager foodies can use LateRooms.com to choose from a wide array of hotels in Cornwall such as the boutique Upton House, which offers guests an air of 1920s glamour.
