Travellers to Palma will be able to witness or take part in the International TUI Marathon Palma de Mallorca this October.

The unique sporting event will be held in the Spanish city for the eighth time in 2011, with a wide variety of different races to be held on October 16th.

Open to professional athletes and amateur runners of all ages, the programme of events will include marathon, half-marathon, 10 km run and Nordic walking contests, as well as a kids' run that takes place on October 15th.

Regular water stations and first aid zones are positioned along the length of the race course, with those who complete the event receiving medals and T-shirts.

The race was named the best sporting event in Spain by Eventoplus earlier this year and is expected to be well-attended once again in 2011, with tennis star Carlos Moya set to be among the runners.

Entry for the full marathon costs €68 (£59.30), with reduced prices available for the shorter events.

The marathon, half-marathon and 10 km run begin at 09:00 local time, with the Nordic walking competition starting 15 minutes later.
