Ebay Seller Fee Increases Opens Opportunities for Alternative Online Auction Providers

Released on = January 29, 2005, 7:40 am

Press Release Author = http://www.7bids.com

Industry = Internet & Online

Press Release Summary = Recently announced Ebay Seller Fee Increases have provided alternative Online Auction Services with new opportunities as Auction Sellers seek more cost efficient methods of selling their goods and services.

Press Release Body = Willard OH--Recently everyone with a seller account on Ebay received an email detailing a substantial increase in Seller Fees. When a merchant on Ebay lists an item for sale, there are fees for listing the item whether it sells
or not and a "final value fee" based on how much the item has sold for.

Many Ebay sellers have expressed some dismay at the prospect of their profit margin being reduced by a substantial increase in these fees, as much as sixty percent. Reviewing a number of sources online reveal that Ebay sellers are moving their online auctions to other venues.

According to a statement by the PESA (Professional Ebay Sellers Association) a trade group that claims to represent over 600 of the largest sellers, "Overall, our members are reporting that they will pay up to 22 percent more to eBay than before
the increase. That's unprecedented, and will have broad marketplace implications."

Among these other channels is http://www.7bids.com. 7bids offers considerably lower fees and a much greater value to Online Auction Sellers. According to the 7bids website, "Our fees are 85-89% lower then Ebay." For the Seller this would translate into a substantial increase in profit.

7bids also offers a Free Store with four listings, a Name Your Bid feature that allows buyers to send bid offers lower than the starting price for a auction, and daily uploads of items to both Froogle and Bidfind. Currently Ebay Sellers can only upload item listings to Froogle on fixed price items.

Overall as Ebay continues to raise fees for sellers, the opportunity for other Online Auction websites will continue to grow. Many Ebay sellers are not interested in raising their prices to maintain their profit margins. And alternatives such as www.7bids.com can certainly expect to grow as Online Auction Sellers seek more cost efficient venues.
