Thailand travellers will be able to enjoy a feast of cultural activities in Nakhon Ratchasima province next month when the 2011 Phimai Festival takes place.

Organised annually by the Tourism Authority of Thailand and other agencies, the festival will be held between November 9th and 13th this year and will encompass various events and activities celebrating the traditions of the Phimai area.

Nakhon Ratchasima's cultural output includes its fine silk, Dan Kwian pottery and Khorat rice noodles, which will likely be featured in the celebration.

Among the events will be Dances Beyond the Mun River, a light and sound presentation that recreates the story of famous Thai ruler King Jayavarman VII, while performances of Khon mask dancing will also be taking place.

Traditional longboat races will be held on the Chakkarat River and Mun River during the final two days of the festival, with other attractions including art shows, sales of local products and food contests.

The Phimai Festival will be held at the Bhrommathat Ground of the Phimai Historical Park and on the banks of the Chakkarat River, with organisers promising that locals will offer tourists a customary warm welcome.

A generous selection of Thailand hotels is available to cultural tourists at AsiaRooms.com, including the Dusit Princess Korat.

More information about this annual celebration can be found at www.tatnews.org.
