The festive season begins in earnest in Cardiff on Thursday November 17th, when the city's Winter Wonderland opens its doors.

Featuring the ever popular Admiral Open Air Ice Rink, this annual attraction is situated in the Civic Centre and acts as a focal point for Cardiff's Christmas celebrations.

As well as the ice rink, which will provide outdoor skating sessions up until January 2nd 2012, the Winter Wonderland offers refreshments from the Ice Cafe, a children's carousel and plenty of other seasonal attractions.

Bookings for skating are now being taken online, with prices starting from £6 for children and £9 for adults.

Skaters are advised to arrive at least 30 minutes before their session time to allow for skate fitting.

The Winter Wonderland is one of many special events due to take place in Cardiff this Christmas and also provides the backdrop to Calennig, the Welsh capital's traditional New Year's Eve celebrations.

Elsewhere in the city, Christmas markets will be open in St John Street, Working Street and the Hayes from mid-November onwards.

People planning a stay in Cardiff accommodation for the festive period will find a diverse array of hotels at LateRooms.com, which recommends the Shepherds Lodge.

More information about the Winter Wonderland can be found at www.cardiff.gov.uk.
