Hit musical comedy Sister Act is set to arrive in the Scottish capital next month.

The show, which opened in the West End in 2009 and recently enjoyed an acclaimed run at the Manchester Opera House, will be staged at the Edinburgh Playhouse from Tuesday November 1st.

Adapted from the classic 1992 movie of the same name, Sister Act tells the story of an aspiring singer who goes undercover as a nun after witnessing a gangland shooting.

The current version of the musical stars Cynthia Erivo as sassy diva Deloris van Cartier, the part played by Whoopi Goldberg in the film.

Other cast members include Denise Black as Mother Superior and Michael Starke, the British actor known for his roles in Brookside and Coronation Street, as Monsignor O'Hara.

Goldberg herself is a co-producer of the show, which was enjoyed by more than one million people during its stint at the London Palladium.

Tickets to see Sister Act at the Edinburgh Playhouse can be purchased online, priced between £18.50 and £49.50.

The show is due to run at the venue until November 12th, with evening performances beginning at 19:30 GMT and matinees taking place at 14:30 on selected dates.
