Culture enthusiasts will be flocking to Bangkok for the 11th International Dance Festival, which is expected to attract crowds of more than 500,000 people at the end of this month.

Organised by the Friends of the Arts foundation in partnership with Thailand's ministry of culture and the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, the 2011 event will be held between November 25th and 30th.

More than 400 performing artists - including the best of Thailand's dance community, plus stars of the international stage - will be giving performances over the course of the festival, many of which will be free to attend.

Opening with a ceremony at the Bangkok Art and Culture Center (BACC), the event will encompass special masterclasses and workshops, street acts, visual arts exhibitions and a young talent showcase.

Highlights this year include Swiss/Japanese duo T42 Dance Projects, the Singaporean dance performance To Be Examined and a short film called Collective Identity, produced by Romania's Sandra Mavhima dance company.

The bulk of performances will take place at the BACC venue, while masterclasses will be held at the Dance Centre school of performing arts.
