The Hong Kong Ballet (HKB) will perform its classic production of The Nutcracker at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre next month.

Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky's famous ballet has been staged by the HKB every December since 1997, making this version an "unmissable Christmas tradition", the company said in a statement.

The ballet tells the story of Clara, a young girl who receives a nutcracker as a Christmas present from Herr Drosselmeyer.

After sneaking downstairs to the drawing room later that night, Clara discovers the family's Christmas tree has grown to an enormous height and Herr Drosselmeyer's nephew has become the Nutcracker Prince.

They embark on a journey through festive dreams, meeting a string of colourful characters such as the Sugarplum Fairy, the Snowflakes and King Rat.

Since 1997, the HKB has boosted its international profile by conducting 20 tours in ten countries across Africa, Europe and North America.

The Nutcracker will be performed from Friday December 16th to Sunday December 18th and from Tuesday December 20th to Monday December 26th.

Tickets range in price from HK$140 (£11.25) to HK$1,000, depending on the seating package and the time and date of the show.

Ballet lovers will find AsiaRooms.com recommends a wide array of Hong Kong hotels, including the Kings De Nathan.

More information on the production can be found at www.hkballet.com.
