Visitors to Thailand at the end of January 2012 will be able
to experience a unique light and sound show called Wimaya Nattakan,
celebrating the rich history of the Nakhon Ratchasima province.
Taking place at Phimai Historical Park on January 28th, the cultural presentation is
designed to illustrate the splendours of ancient Phimai and the Khmer empire via a
richly choreographed display of stagecraft and dancing.
The first half of the performance will feature recreations of scenes depicted on the
bas-relief sculptures of the Phimai Sanctuary, including Buddhist religious
processions, the ritual dance of the boxers and the Phimaipura or Vimayapura dance.
Meanwhile, the second part will be entirely dedicated to traditional folk dances,
such as Bai Sri Su Kwan, Manohra Len Nam and the Dung Krok and Dung Sak mortar and
pestle dance.
Phimai Historical Park is located near to Nakhon Ratchasima and is typically open to
the public between 07:30 and 18:00 local time each day.
Guests can also enjoy guided tours of the historic architecture, as well as
delicious traditional food.
A wide array of Thailand hotels are available to cultural enthusiasts at AsiaRooms.com, such as the Dusit Princess Korat.
