LateRooms.com - York Festival of Fairtrade returns for 2012

Industry: Travel

The 2012 York Festival of Fairtrade is due to get underway on Monday February 27th.

Organised by the York Fair Trade Forum, the 14-day festival will feature more than 100 events designed to celebrate and promote the benefits of fair trade produce.

The York Fair Trade Market, which is set to run in Parliament Street from Friday March 9th to Sunday March 11th, forms the centrepiece of the festival.

People who attend the market will find a wide range of fair trade goods for sale, including food and drink, handicrafts, clothing, jewellery, bags and fashion accessories.

There will be a special programme of live entertainment at the market on Saturday March 10th, featuring samba music and dancing from around the world.

Other festival events will be held at various venues throughout York, with fair trade sales and tastings taking place at churches, schools and the city's universities.

The fair trade mark is used to ensure farmers in developing nations receive a fair price for their goods, as conventional trading practices tend to discriminate against the poorest producers.

Festival-goers can browse a wide assortment of York hotels at LateRooms.com, which recommends The Churchill Hotel.
