August 21, 2012, 11:19 am -- /EPR NETWORK/ -- Britain's leading specialists and dealers will come together this September to present more than £5 million worth of fine art and antiques at the Chelsea Antiques Fair. Some thirty-six dealers will participate, offering a huge selection of exhibits, ranging in price from less than £100 up to over £20,000. Entry to the fair is just £5.
Since the demise of the Grosvenor House Antiques Fair, this ‘boutique fair' is the UK's longest running antiques event. Starting on 19 th September and running until the 23rd, this year's event is expecting to outdo previous years in terms of breadth, quality and authenticity.
Specialist displays include town and country furniture, all manner of jewellery, ceramics, watercolour and oil paintings, prints, handmade glass, Persian rugs, Art Deco mirrors and rare antiquities. Objects date largely from the 19 th and 20 th Centuries, although the eagle-eyed will spot plenty of older pieces.
The fair draws the usual crowd of West End collectors, many of whom have been regular attendees since the first fair in 1950. The budget range suits the more casual collector, and there is usually an array of well-known faces stopping by to bargain hunt. Previous years have been attended by world ambassadors and leaders, as well as famous names including Michael Winner, Diana Rigg, Michael Portillo, Charlie Watts and Margaret Thatcher. The fair regularly attracts antique lovers from Japan, Argentina, Italy, Russia and Germany.
The Chelsea Antiques Fair takes place in the appropriate opulence of Chelsea Town Hall, on the Kings Road, famed for its marble columns, chandeliers and coveted works of art.
