The Barbican Centre is a great example of London architecture a controversial art complex with commanding, austere lines unadorned with needless ornamentation in the manner dubbed Brutalist. Fittingly, this building will hold an exhibition of 250 photographs of 20th century architecture from the 1930s to the present day this autumn called Constructing Worlds: Photography and Architecture in the Modern Age (25th September 2014 11th January 2015). Similarly, Ordinary Beauty: the photography of Edwin Smith (10th September 6th December 2014) will look at the work of a 20th -century photographer who captured British buildings and landscapes. The exhibition will take place at the new gallery at the HQ of RIBA, the Royal Institute of British Architects.
American architect Louis Kahn (9th July 12th October 2014) will be the focus of a retrospective at the Design Museum, featuring models, drawings, sketches, photographs and films of his greatest buildings including the monumental Salk Institute in California. Finally, the lovely small museum inside the Wellington Arch at Hyde Park Corner will examine London's six great War Memorials with We Will Remember Them: London's Great War Memorials (16th July 30th November 2014), including the Cenotaph on Whitehall and the profoundly moving Machine Gun Corps Memorial next to the Wellington Arch at Hyde Park Corner.
