Maranello, Italy, September 3, 2015 -- /EPR NETWORK/ -- Hospital Israelita Albert Einstein (HIAE), one of the most important hospitals in Latin America, announces it has entered an agreement with Swisslog Healthcare Solutions (http://www.swisslog.com/healthcare), a leading supplier of automation and software solutions for material transport and medication management, to re-engineer its pharmacy processes. The agreement is part of an ambitious project of expansion and modernization that significantly increases the hospital"s size and expands its number of beds to 720. The project goals are to increase capacity and, based on the principles of continuous improvements and excellence, assure sustainable growth through state-of-the-art equipment and by providing quality health care.

The Swisslog agreement covers high-technology systems in two complementary devices: the PillPick® Automated Packaging and Dispensing System (http://www.swisslog.com/pillpick), which automatically packages and dispenses patient-specific therapies in unit doses, and the BoxPicker™ Automated Pharmacy Storage System (http://www.swisslog.com/boxpicker), which provides secure storage and retrieval of medications in original manufacturer packaging. The combination of these two automated systems will allow the hospital to manage and trace its entire drug formulary from the wholesaler to the patient bedside.

"We are proud that a leading Brazilian institution - the Hospital Israelita Albert Einstein - has chosen Swisslog to automate its medication management processes" says Massimo Zagnoni, Vice President Sales & Marketing EMEA for Swisslog Healthcare Solutions. The PillPick System is equipped with cutting-edge technologies such as AutoPhial™ Plus, a new integrated module for automated blister cutting, medication handling and unit-dose production. AutoPhial Plus automatically performs the picking and cutting of blisters, handling of medications and their transfer to the packaging module. The system automates the cutting of up to 95% of blister types into single units. The packaging module also will be equipped with PickView™, the vision system that provides documentation supporting the right drug in right package.

"At Hospital Israelita Albert Einstein, our vision is to be leaders and innovators in medical and hospital care, a benchmark in knowledge management, and recognized for our commitment to social responsibility," affirms Miguel Cendoroglo, MD, hospital Director.
